At LotusRecycling, it is our mission to divert all end-of-life solar panels fromlandfills. While solar panels have become a cornerstone of clean energy, theirend-of-life management has long been overlooked. Across Australia, decommissioned panels were often stockpiled, left to degrade, or illegallyexported and burned offshore, creating a hidden environmental crisis. Thischallenge revealed a critical gap in the circular economy and highlighted theurgent need for urban mining solutions to recover valuable critical mineralsthat would otherwise be lost. From thischallenge, Lotus Recycling invented the process to recycle end-of-life solarpanels. To close the loop on the life cycle of solar panels and turn what wasonce considered waste into high-value resources. Through innovative urbanmining techniques, we recover key critical minerals and materials—includingsilicon, silver, glass, and specialised plastics—from end-of-life panels. It isa world-first, fully autonomous recycling process operates without harshchemicals, ensuring maximum material recovery while minimising environmentalimpact. The recovered materials are then repurposed into high-performanceproducts for batteries, construction, agriculture, and beyond.By transformingsolar waste into functional, high-value materials, we are redefining the wayrenewable energy systems contribute to a circular economy. Every recoveredcomponent supports domestic supply chains, reduces landfill, and strengthenssustainability across industries. At Lotus Recycling, we aren’t just managingwaste—we are reclaiming the future of clean energy. Through cutting-edgetechnology, science, and visionary urban mining, we are proving that a trulycircular approach to renewable energy is possible, where every material hasvalue beyond its first use.
